A Florida-conceived idea of boycotting celebrity media magnate Oprah Winfrey is spreading, and has support among Republican women in Broward.
It's all part of the Republican attempt to gin up support for their presidential candidate, John McCain, by charging that the media are unfair to his vice presidential pick, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
And there's no bigger media fish than Winfrey, host of the eponymous television talk show and the magazine with an even shorter title, "O."
Winfrey, perhaps the most prominent celebrity supporting Democrat Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, isn't interested in having Palin on her television program - until after the election.
The celebrity Web site TMZ quoted Winfrey as saying she would "love" to have Palin on her show after Nov. 4.
That got leaders in the Florida Federation of Republican Women agitated. So during a telephone board meeting over the weekend, they decided to launch a boycott.
The republicans are killing me right now. They must think america is stupid. Oprah aint got to have nobody on her show if she doesn't want to. Do they know who she is???? I think it is fair not to have any candidate on her show trying to talk about issues. Barack was on the Oprah show but it was not to speak about his platform.
